Most recently, Dorn was the head coach of the Newport Beach Sea Hawks,
a men's professional team in thenewlyformed American Pro Volleyball League. Prior to his involvement in the league,
he coached collegiate men and women's volleyball for 12 years, including 7 at the NCAA Division I level. Coach "K" has previously served as Director
of Coach and Player Development for the Inland Empire Volleyball Club, by implementing a comprehensive developmental system of techniques and strategies
for both coaches and athletes.
While coaching at California Baptist University, Dorn was a coach on 5 National Championship squads. The CBU women won their first-ever championship
during his first year (2004), and won their second consecutive NAIA crown in 2005. He has also received championship rings for the past 3 consecutive men's
NAIA national title runs (2004, 2005 and 2006). The CBU men defeated numerous NCAA Division I/II teams in the process.
Previously, Dorn led Samford University, located in Birmingham, AL, for 2 seasons (2002 and 2003). He left with the highest winning percentage by a Samford
volleyball coach, and had one of the top blocking teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference. He was also an assistant coach there for 2 seasons (2000 and 2001)
and was the top recruiter. Still an active player, Dorn has competed at numerous USA Volleyball National Championship events in doubles and triples, earning
tournament MVP honors in the process.
Dorn's other NCAA Division I experience is comprised of one season (1999) as first assistant coach at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ, and
two years (1997 and 1998) as the top assistant at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. While at Seton Hall, he coached the Cut Shot U-17 club team, which
won the GEVA championship in New Jersey. At Liberty, he helped coach the Flames to the NCAA Tournament in 1997. Liberty won back-to-back Big South Conference
regular-season championships in 1997 and 1998. He also founded the Liberty men's club team and coached it for 2 seasons.
Coach "K" has served as an evaluator and court coach for USA Volleyball, working specifically with the Youth National Team and USA Select Tryouts.
He has also been a lead coach for Gold Medal Squared Volleyball, an elite training program featuring Olympic medalists and championship-level college coaches.
Dorn also served as a coach of collegiate men and women's teams that have traveled to the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Brazil and East Asia. He has
worked with athletic ministries such as Athletes in Action, Uncharted Waters, and SCORE International.
As a player, Dorn was a co-captain with Athletes in Action during a 1997 tour of East Asia and Thailand. On that tour, which included a match against
the Thai National Team, his team went 12-3 against international competition.
He graduated from Taylor University in Upland, IN, in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in fine arts and psychology. He was the team captain before becoming
the player-coach and eventually the head coach. Dorn holds the team record for most blocks in a season.
He is originally from Long Island, NY, and participated as a middle blocker for the Long Island team at the Empire State Games in New York.
Dorn's wife, Jennifer or "Jp" was a 4-year starter at middle blocker for USC from 1998-2001 and was a 2-time All-American and 4-time All-Pac-10
honoree there. She also assisted Dorn for 2 years while he was at Samford.
Coach "K" recently earned a master's degree in Kinesiology/Sport Management, where he was awarded the 2007 CBU Kinesiology Outstanding Graduate
Student Award. He owns a financial services business through Primerica, helping families become debt free and financially independent. He also is an Adjunct
Professor of Kinesiology at CBU.
